Yacoubian Hobbs 2022 Sarpina Areni Vayots Dzor Armenia
Yacoubian-Hobbs 2022 Sarpina Areni
Vayots Dzor, Armenia – Limited Production High-Elevation Areni
The Yacoubian-Hobbs 2022 Sarpina Areni is a refined and limited-production Armenian red wine that showcases the extraordinary potential of the indigenous Areni grape grown in the high-altitude vineyards of Vayots Dzor.
Produced through the collaboration between the Yacoubian family and internationally acclaimed winemaker Paul Hobbs, this wine represents a modern yet deeply authentic expression of Armenia’s ancient winemaking heritage. The name “Sarpina” refers to the traditional vine-training posts referenced in Armenian agricultural history, honoring centuries of viticulture in one of the world’s oldest wine regions.
Crafted from carefully selected parcels in the Rind vineyard, located at over 1,300 meters elevation, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 7 months in French oak barrels, preserving freshness while adding depth and structure.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby-red hue with an expressive bouquet of black cherry, cassis, blackberry, raspberry preserves, and dried red fruits, layered with notes of forest floor, tobacco leaf, dark cacao, vanilla, and subtle spice. The palate is full-bodied yet elegant, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and beautifully integrated oak. Notes of blackcurrant, plum, chocolate, and mineral tension carry through to a long, refined finish.
This is one of the most compelling modern expressions of Areni Noir—a wine that bridges Armenia’s 6,000-year winemaking history with world-class contemporary craftsmanship.
