MALAHI 2021 Red Vayots Dzor Armenia
MALAHI was the ancient name of the indigenous Armenian grape varietal Areni Noir.
Blend: 60% Areni, 20% Malbec, 20% Khndoghni
Origin and terroir: This wine is a blend of several terroirs.
- Indigenous Areni from Aghavnadzor village where the soil is volcanic and limestone at an altitude of 1400 meters (approx. 4500 feet).
- Khndoghni from lower Artsakh at an altitude of 500 meters (approx. 1600 feet).
- Malbec from Ararat valley where the soil is volcanic and clay at an altitude of 1100 meters (approx. 3600 feet).
Yield: limited to 50-60 cwt/ha for Areni and Khndoghni, 80-90 cwt/ha for Malbec.
Vinification: Varietals were fermented and aged separately. Prolonged maceration (18-21 days) was ensured. Whole blend was completed after barrel ageing.
Barrel Ageing: up to 6 months in 1 to 3-year-old in medium toasted barrels.
Alcohol: 14%
