GRAND KARAS 2016 Red Wine Ararat Valley Armenia
Origin - Ararat Valley, Armenia
Soil - Volcanic in origin, lightly eroded clay formed by basalt, high levels of carbonate and limestone, volcanic tuff and alluvial stones.
Climate - continental highlands climate with hot summers and cold dry winters.
Harvest Date – End of September 2014. Hand harvest.
Vinification – The grapes are harvested manually, 5t/ha in 20 kg boxes. After passing 2 selection tables the grapes are placed into stainless steel tanks for 5 days of cold maceration. Fermentation is carried out 20 days at 14 – 16 degrees centigrade. MLF is carried out in stainless steel tanks. The ready wine is aged in Armenian and French oak barrels for 14 months.
Grape varieties: Blend of Syrah, Montepulciano and Ancellota.
