Khachen 2022 Areni Aghavnadzor Armenia
Khachen 2022 Areni Noir – Aghavnadzor, Vayots Dzor, Armenia
Estate-Grown • High-Elevation • Unfiltered Red Wine
Full Product Description
The Khachen 2022 Areni Noir from Aghavnadzor is a refined, terroir-driven expression of Armenia’s signature red grape, grown at 1,400 meters above sea level in the heart of Vayots Dzor. This estate wine captures the elegance, freshness, and aromatic complexity that have made Areni Noir one of the world’s most exciting indigenous varieties.
Planted on south-facing slopes with rocky volcanic soils over solid bedrock, the vines grow on their own roots in low-vigor, well-draining conditions that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. The region’s dry continental climate, marked by hot days, cool nights, and strong diurnal shifts, preserves acidity while enhancing ripeness and aromatics.
Harvested by hand at peak maturity in late September and early October, the grapes were gently destemmed and carefully hand-sorted to ensure only the healthiest berries were used. After a brief cold soak, fermentation was conducted under controlled conditions with a short, gentle maceration to preserve finesse. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 12 months in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and neutral French oak, allowing purity of fruit to shine without oak dominance.
The result is a light-to-medium-bodied red with balanced acidity, refined tannins, and a graceful, food-friendly profile.
